Rebecca Ashton

Rebecca Ashton is recently graduated from The Drawing Year and is now continuing her practice in Set’s new studios in Vauxhall. Her practice lingers between self-referential fact and fiction, where observation is unsettled by memory, writing, and the uncanny. Colour and texture play a central role, layered through persistent working and reworking that allow her images to oscillate between the intimate and disconcerting. She works with everything from foraged natural pigments, oils, to the raw immediacy of a ballpoint pen - bridging the crude and the delicate. Her drawings speak to this process of accumulation, seeking to crystallise moments of connection while holding space for ambiguity and strangeness.
